So you want to work with PRs? | Building Relationships

So if you're lucky enough to get noticed by PRs, keeping them on your side will ensure that all your initial hard work isn't wasted. Chances are, if I've worked with a blogger before who's been really easy to work with and has posted a fab write up, they'll be top of my list when it comes to the next blogger opportunity.

Whilst building relationships is certainly worthwhile, it's important to remain genuine. Keep it natural, don't force it and please don't try and be a massive suck up - it's obvious. So what are the best ways to become chums with us PR types?

So you want to work with PRs? | Getting Noticed

There's no denying that blogging is completely taking over the internet, and brands are definitely taking notice of how useful blogger outreach can be. As someone who works at a PR agency, I've dealt with my fair share of bloggers, and often have a say in who we invite to events, send a product sample to or arrange a cheeky free press trip for.

So what's the criteria? Whilst each PR agency or brand will have their own way of looking at things and approaching bloggers, there are certainly some 'golden rules' that are always worth following and remembering - you'll be surprised how much the little things count.

I've decided to split this into three separate posts (turns out I have a lot more to say than I originally thought!). So first things first, how do you make the opportunities come to you?

What Valentine's Day cards should really say...

I've never been a big fan of Valentine's Day. There's nothing romantic about being packed into a restaurant so close you're practically sharing a table with everyone else, being forced to order from a set menu, and feeling like just one couple on a massive conveyor belt as they churn people out before you've barely finished your creme brûlée.

My boyfriend isn't one for romance, so it's kind of been our tradition to keep it casual for the past couple of years. Domino's pizza, a DVD and a cuddle on the sofa is our idea of a perfect Valentine's Day, and luckily we only ever buy each other cards (it is a Hallmark holiday after all!). Not ones for the gushy romantic cards that take over the likes of Clinton's as soon as Christmas is over, these alternatives are definitely more up our street:

Why I love #ThisGirlCan

This Girl Can campaign

If, like me, one of your New Year's resolutions was to up your exercise programme and improve your fitness, then hopefully you've seen the fantastic new campaign from Sport England.

'This Girl Can' is a series of tv adverts and posters, which encourages women of all shapes and sizes to get involved with sport and exercise. The campaign was launched in response to a survey which showed that 2 million fewer women aged 14 - 40 play sport regularly, compared to men in the same age range. Despite this, 75% of women say they want to be more active - so what's stopping them?

Is it the fear of judgement, the feeling that they can't do it or maybe shouldn't be doing some sports, or is it simply that they don't fit the poster girl image of a 'sporty' girl? There's no denying that campaigns for some of the leading sportswear ranges feature toned, beautiful women who can be intimidating to those starting out. As someone who was sporty growing up, it's not something that ever bothered me, but for the girls in my school who loathed PE, and now that I'm not exactly in peak physical condition, it's definitely something I notice more.

New Year's resolutions

So with another year over and hangover dusted off, it's time to look ahead to the next 12 months and come up with a list of cliche resolutions to help us make this the 'best year ever'. Whilst I know that come February I'll have probably given up on them all (like every other year!), here's what I'm hoping to achieve this year!

Here's to 2014!

I can't believe we've made it to the end of 2014 already, where has the time gone?!

This time last year, this blog didn't even exist, so it's kind of crazy to be sat here writing this now. As I'm sure everyone says, it's been a year of ups and downs, but I thought it would be fun to take you on a whistle-stop tour of my year...

Let's start at the very beginning in January, waking up to 2014 with a horrendous hangover in a beautiful cottage in Wales. Two days later I turned 22 and went to London Zoo, also getting possibly the best surprise birthday present anyone could ever ask for...
